Starlight Super Swim 2024

North Mackay Sinkers, Bunna-barra Masters & Belgravia Masters Swimming Clubs

Masters Swimming Queensland clubs are becoming increasingly more involved with community activities that support people and groups in the Regions and throughout the State. Luckily, they also involve swimming, so it’s right up our lane. You can use it to motivate you for events, certain goals and raise much need funding for the various organisations involved.

February 2024 was the month that Starlight Children’s Foundation hosted the Starlight Super Swim.

The Foundation: For over 30 years they have worked in partnership with health professionals to bring the fun, joy and laughter that helps sick kids be kids. They help kids of all ages regardless of disability, injury or illness because what happens in childhood lasts a lifetime.

The Swim: You can participate as an individual, in a team or as a swim school for instance. A handy app helps log swims and donations and it is easy to join in. You can swim anywhere, anytime in the month of February and have any donations accredited until the end of March. Of course the main aim is to raise those valuable funds but awareness and participation are also great aims for Masters clubs and their networks.

MSQ Teams: This year the North Mackay Sinkers along with the Bunna-barra and Belgravia Masters Swimming Clubs participated in this event, all quite unknown to each other’s involvement. Each of the clubs coincidently had 5 registered members each for a total of 15 members. The clubs raised a collective grand total of $7,952 that will benefit the wellbeing of young children in hospital.

It is the first involvement in this swim by the Sinkers and is a great activity for members to rally around and worth putting on your club schedule for 2025.

Some impressive distances by individuals from the various teams were recorded and added nicely to other MSQ programs such as the Million Metres and Lane Warriors for instance.

All these swimming related events are worthwhile and well worth participating in at club level with most providing opportunity for individuals as well. Register and have some fun and regardless of the funds raised being big or small enjoy a great event with your club members.
