QBN Meet Report 2024

Brisbane Northside Short Course Meet Report 2024

Brisbane Northside hosted their annual swim meet at the Valley Pool on 24 August 2024. It was a warm, sunny day which made it very comfortable for swimmers and volunteers. There were 163 nominations from 32 clubs for the event, including swimmers from Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales, and two members of the Milan Masters Club in Italy.

It was decided to have a different format this year by including 400m and 800m postal events, with swimmers able to have a combination of postals and events on the day up to a maximum of 5 events. This proved to be quite popular, with many opting to have a mixture of the two. This was especially popular with Northside members who were able to compete and still volunteer to help on the day.

The meet ran smoothly with no holdups, finishing at 12.30pm, close to the program timeline.

The small clubs average points trophy was won by Toowoomba Masters, and the large clubs average points trophy was won by Brisbane Southside. Brisbane Southside Masters also won the overall points score.

The large clubs average points trophy was presented to Brisbane Southside by Mary Sweeney, a former member of Brisbane Northside, and a former President of both Masters Swimming Queensland and Masters Swimming Australia.

Five swimmers achieved Branch and/or National records: Nola Macaulay from TSA Masters broke the State and National record for the 100m Fly, and Lachlan McDowell also from TSA Masters broke the State and National record for the 200m Fly. Nola Macaulay also broke the State record for the 200IM. Other State records were broken by Ian Robinson from River City Masters in the 100m Breaststroke and Matthew Wright from Albany Creek in the 200 Fly.

It was a very successful meet, with many Northside members contributing to make sure everything ran as efficiently as possible, at Café Noah, on the raffle table or on pool deck. Many thanks to all who volunteered from other clubs also for helping with timekeeping.

Northside Masters would also like to thank their generous sponsors for their continuing support:

  • Swimwear Shack
  • Café 63
  • Vegi Prepi
