PPMG24 Celebrating the Spirit of Masters Swimming

PPMG24: A Triumphant Celebration of Masters Swimming

The Pan Pacific Masters Games 2024 (PPMG24) wrapped up on a high note with Swimming in the later part of the event drawing 553 spirited competitors from 94 teams across Australia and around the globe including large contingencies from Mongolia and New Zealand.

This year’s event, held at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, was a vibrant showcase of skill, camaraderie, and sportsmanship in a pool that has hosted some of Swimming Australia’s best.

We owe the event’s success to an outstanding team of officials led by MSQ Director of Technical Services, Lori Chaplin, whose dedication ensured seamless racing and a positive experience for all.

Our sincere thanks also go to the tireless volunteer workforce, led by Rose Milnes from Redlands Bayside Masters and Trish Robinson from Rackley Masters.

A big shoutout to our dedicated announcers, John Munro and Greg Flanders who both energized the crowd and competitors alike. John and Greg have been announcing major Masters Swimming events for years and provide great commentary for the enjoyment of all.

Our marshals also deserve special recognition for their tireless efforts, led by our check starter Sam, whose eye-catching disguises as a jester, clown fish, flamingo and squid brought a splash of fun to the pool deck. Thank you for getting all swimmers on the blocks!

Thank you to the MSQ Branch Management Board and Directors who contributed their time and efforts to this event.

Special thanks are extended to the medal engravers from Mermaid Trophy Centre and to the skilled sports massagers from Active Body Therapies, who kept our athletes in top form throughout the competition.

We’d also like to thank our major supporters, Funky Trunks and Funkita, who provided discounted swimwear and accessories, and supplied the fabulous commemorative swim caps to the first 400 entrants, making for an extra-special keepsake. They also generously donated popular raffle prizes, drawn daily.

The results are in, and PPMG24 proved to be a record-breaking event! A total of 371 records were identified, as follows:

  • 34 MSA records
  • 44 MSQ records
  • 33 MSNSW records
  • 22 MSV records
  • 12 MNT records
  • 226 Pan Pacific Masters Games records

This impressive tally reflects the exceptional performances of our competitors. The manual collation process was expertly managed by Marty Banks, the MSQ Director of Recording, and we extend our gratitude for his meticulous work.

The beautiful weather added to the event’s enjoyment, making for a memorable four days of competition. Attendees embraced the true spirit of Masters Swimming, fostering an environment of fun and unity. Be sure to check out the fantastic event photos on Geosnapshot here.

All results (including splits), records and meet statistics are available on the MSQ website.

We’re already looking forward to the next event, tentatively scheduled for November 11–14, 2026. Thank you all for making PPMG24 an unforgettable success, and we can’t wait to welcome everyone back in two years’ time for PPMG26!

Yours in Swimming,

Christina Scolaro, MSQ Business Manager
