Philip Fowler – The Sweet Scent of Chlorine
What do you love about swimming?
I love the freedom of the water, I love the fitness it provides in all levels of your body, and I love the smell of chlorine. LOL
You can train at your own pace, it has low impact on your body unlike other sports. I also love the competitive side and attending swim meets to meet fellow masters swimmers and compete in my own age group.
When did you first join Masters Swimming?
I first joined Masters in 2014.
Most memorable swimming moment?
Becoming President of the Albany Creek Club.
Favourite events?
- 50m Freestyle
- 50m Breaststroke
- 100m IM
How often do you swim, and where?
I would like to swim more often, but due to heavy business commitments I am only able to swim on Sunday mornings with the squad at Albany Creek. In retirement I plan to swim daily!
What motivates and inspires you?
Masters motivates me and inspires me to keep swimming with an amazing organisation. When I am able to have more time, I would like to get involved in masters at a State or National level to continue to promote and support this sport.
Have you had setbacks to overcome?
No, touch wood!
What upcoming events are you swimming in?
Northside Swim meet
Noosa Swim Meet
Philosophy on life? Favourite saying?
Philosophy is keep active, positive and kind.
Favourite saying is : There are no tow bars on hearses (you can’t take it with you, have fun and enjoy).
What would you say to someone who is thinking of becoming a Masters swimmer?
Highly recommend anyone with any swimming ability or who hasn’t swum in many years to jump in and give it a try. No-one judges you, everyone is here to support you and you will have fun all along the way. Masters is a Global organisation which opens up many opportunities to participate either locally, on a State level, nationally and even globally. Best decision I ever made was to join Masters!!
