Michele Burley-Jones Honoured as Masters Swimming Queensland’s Official of the Year for 2023
Masters Swimming Queensland (MSQ) is proud to announce Michele Burley-Jones as the recipient of the 2023 Official of the Year Award. Michele’s outstanding contributions to Masters Swimming as a Technical Official since its inception in 1988, coupled with her dedication in her 50th year as a swimming official, have earned her this prestigious recognition.
Michele’s officiating career began in 1973, and she proudly holds the title of the first Australian FINA Masters Referee. Officiating took Michele around the world, from Manchester to Hamilton (NZ) and Maui (Hawaii), with each event leaving its mark on her journey.
In addition to her officiating achievements, Michele has been recognized for her contributions in various capacities, including being a torchbearer for the Olympic Torch Relay in 2000, serving as a driver for the Medical Team for Aquatics & Spectator Services at the Olympic Games, and participating as a Technical Official at the Paralympic Games.
Michele’s dedication and achievements have not gone unnoticed. She has been awarded the AM Medal, the Australian Sports Medal for recognition of services to swimming and working at the Olympics & Paralympics, and the Sports Person of the Year by Gosford City Council for her services to sport, especially swimming.
MSQ extends its heartfelt congratulations to Michele Burley-Jones for her enduring contributions to Masters Swimming officiation, and we believe it is fitting to recognise these achievements in her 50th year on deck supporting our beloved sport.
