Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea

DMR and the Sinkers 2nd Annual “Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea”

The North Mackay Sinkers and DMR Leisure have once again shown how powerful a community can be when it rallies behind a cause. Their 2nd Annual Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, held on Saturday June 13th, delivered laughter, friendly competition — and another outstanding fundraising result, on this occasion for the Cancer Council Queensland.

In 2025, the Sinkers raised a remarkable $2,000. This year, they nudged that total even higher, collecting $2,153 through donations, raffles, games, and the ever‑popular BBQ. The funds will be transferred this week, adding to the growing national tally.

Across Australia, more than 20,000 morning teas have been registered in 2026, contributing to an incredible $13.2 million raised so far for Cancer Council’s research, prevention programs, and support services.

This year’s event was packed with activities that kept everyone entertained from start to finish:

  • Duck races that had the crowd cheering from poolside.
  • Raffles featuring generous prizes from Sponsors and members.
  • A lively hat competition, with creativity on full display.
  • Games and challenges that brought out plenty of laughs.

On the food front, the Sinkers stuck with what works. A traditional BBQ with bacon and egg rolls proved a crowd favourite, while tables held a great spread of sweet and savoury treats to fuel swimmers after their regular 8 am “Jim Session” in the pool.

It was the perfect blend of fun, food, and fundraising.

Every dollar raised helps Cancer Council fund:

  • Life‑saving cancer research
  • Prevention and early detection programs
  • Support services for individuals and families facing a cancer diagnosis

For many Australians, these services provide hope, guidance, and practical help at the toughest times in their lives.

With two successful years now behind them, the North Mackay Sinkers and DMR Leisure are shaping this morning tea into a signature annual event — one that blends community spirit with meaningful impact.

A heartfelt thank‑you goes to every volunteer, baker, donor, and participant who helped make the 2026 event such a success.

We appreciate and acknowledge our sponsors: DMR Leisure (Memorial pool), Bunnings, Mt. Pleasant Tavern, Dan Murphies and club members.
