The Return of the Rats Race Report
The 2026 Return of the Rats Long Course Meet made a spectacular return to the iconic Tobruk Memorial Baths, delivering two unforgettable days of fast racing, friendship, laughter and true Masters spirit.
Swimmers from across Queensland and beyond embraced the atmosphere both in and out of the pool, with highlights including the ever-popular Victory Relay and the crowd-favourite Roxy Rat Relay. The weekend showcased everything that makes Masters Swimming special — camaraderie, encouragement and fun for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
A historic highlight of the meet was the awarding of Life Memberships to two long-serving club stalwarts — John Barrett and Bruce Muller — in recognition of their decades of outstanding service and dedication to the Rats of Tobruk Masters Swim Club. Both have played enormous roles in shaping the club’s spirit, culture and success over many years.
A sincere thank you to all swimmers, officials, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who helped make the Return of the Rats such a success. The Rats are well and truly back — NO SURRENDER! 🐀🏊♂️
