Meet Swimming Binny

Meet Swimming Binny: From Bin Chicken to a Masters Swimming National Champion!

Born in the lively area of South Bank Beach and surrounds, Binny was raised on a strict diet of hot chips and dreams. Binny is no ordinary ibis, but a Bin Chicken with feathers full of flair and a wingspan matched only by his ambition! Binny has clawed his way from the bins to the big leagues — and is now the official mascot of the 2026 MSA National Masters Swimming Championships!

A proud local (or at least, highly territorial), Binny represents everything we love about Masters Swimming — determination, individuality, and a healthy splash of attitude. Whether raiding picnic baskets for food after a swim or cheering poolside with his signature strut, Binny brings binergy wherever he goes.

Brisbane’s ibis population is notorious for their bold behaviour, and Binny is no exception. But underneath the scruffy feathers is a true champion — one who knows the value of fitness, friendship, and fun (and maybe the location of every chip van in the city).

🐔 Follow the Bin Chicken Trail!

To celebrate Binny’s reign, Nationals visitors can also explore the Bin Chicken Trail — a cheeky and charming self-guided walk through iconic ibis hotspots in Brisbane. Spot murals, sculptures, and installations that honour our most misunderstood bird. From South Bank to Roma Street, this trail is perfect for a stroll, selfie, or snack break (watch your chips).

MSQ is also working with local retailers to present a South Bank hub Binny Trail full of discounts and offers for our competitors and supporters! More information to come soon.
