Toowoomba Turns It On
Swimmers, sunshine, and spring blooms set the scene for a memorable day at the 2025 Toowoomba Masters Short Course Meet. Held at the Glennie Aquatic Centre on 4 October, the event brought together over 85 swimmers from across Queensland for a fast-paced and friendly competition, all against the vibrant backdrop of Toowoomba’s iconic Carnival of Flowers.
Over 85 swimmers from across the state ventured up the Range for a fun day of racing at the Glennie Aquatic Centre, while also taking the opportunity to enjoy the many wonderful gardens Toowoomba had on offer as part of the “Carnival of Flowers”.
The early start meant Brisbane swimmers were not affected by the “Lights on the Hill Truck Convoy” this year, and the day wrapped up smoothly with presentations concluding by 3:00 pm.
The great success of the weekend would not have been possible without the ongoing support and behind-the-scenes efforts of our Club Captain, Carolyn Lunney, and Amanda from Glennie Swim Club. Results were available instantly, and swimmers could see on the electronic scoreboard whether they had achieved personal best times.
Presentations were held after the final event. The small club average points trophy was awarded to Brisbane Northside Masters, while the large club average points trophy went to Belgravia Masters.
Four state records were set on the day—congratulations to Kady Ibell, Trudy Ford (2 records), and Aileen Mackinnon.
Thanks to the support of many volunteers, both young and old, the meet ran smoothly without requiring timekeepers from other clubs—something we know was greatly appreciated.
Swimmers and friends once again enjoyed the hospitality of QTW, with a light lunch and tea and coffee available throughout the day.
A big thank you to our Technical Officials, who ensured the meet ran efficiently, with no disqualifications, and provided valuable guidance to swimmers.
