MSQ Clubs make their mark on the MS Swimathon
Masters Swimming Queensland (MSQ) is highly regarded in providing swimming opportunities for adult swimmers with established clubs throughout Queensland providing training for fitness and health outcomes. Regional, State and National swimming competitions, open water swims and of course, friendship & fun are all part of the mix.
Masters swimmers also give back to their communities in a variety of ways through individual activities like Movember or “Shave for a cure” to name a few. The focus of this article is the “MS Swimathon”.
The introduction of the Multiple Sclerosis Swimathon throughout Regional Queensland in 2011 has provided an opportunity for swimmers to participate in their favourite activity while raising funds for a great cause. Several MSQ clubs have participated over the years with the most recent year seeing significant funds raised on behalf of MS Queensland.
This year alone, four MSQ clubs consisting of Cairns Mud Crabs, North Mackay Sinkers, Townsville Mermaids (Mixed masters & other swimmers) and the Miami Masters raised $18,986 for Multiple Sclerosis. In all since the inaugural event in 2011 MSQ clubs have participated in 17 events raising a grand total of $59,210 which is an outstanding effort by any standards.
Annual MS Swimathon events are held regionally giving the opportunity for further involvement by MSQ clubs that may choose to participate. They are run over a financial year with nine events scheduled to take place with a possible further event pending for 2019-20. (You may need to check dates)
