John Miles – 4 Million Metres

Congratulations to John Miles of QSC Sunshine Coast Masters! He has recently achieved his Vorgee 4 Million Metres Award. Thanks to John for sharing his swimmer profile. 

How did you first become involved with swimming?

I started swimming regularly whilst recovering from a broken rib after surfing.

What do you love about swimming?

It’s a great way to start the day and I love the social aspect.

When did you first join Masters Swimming?

2012

Most memorable swimming moment?

Finishing a 10k sponsored swim.

Favourite events?

Short sprints

How often do you swim, and where?

5-6 times per week at Buderim and Kawana pools.

What motivates and inspires you?

I enjoy it.

Have you had setbacks to overcome?

I have found swimming really helps my asthma.

Favourite things? Likes and dislikes?

I like most things apart from freestyle kicking with a kickboard.

What upcoming events are you swimming in?

I am still thinking about it.

Can you share a little about your family?

I am a widower. I have 3 children – a son and 2 daughters. I have a partner Kerri and a stepdaughter.

Your Career?

I work as a Medical Practitioner.

Other interesting/little-known facts about you?

I have a black belt in Karate and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Philosophy on life? Favourite saying?

Never give up.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of becoming a Masters swimmer?

Do it!
