Ted has been a masters’ swimmer for 30 years, and is currently the President of the Cairns Clams Masters Swimming Club. He has been instrumental in organising ocean swims, club swim days, swim meets and charity relays. Ted swam a marathon for Camp Quality at the Tobruk Pool in 2010, swimming 35.4km.  He has participated in the Rottnest Channel swim; in 2019 in a two-person relay, and in 2020 as a four person Cairns Clams team member. Ted has assisted MSQ in hosting the last two Great Barrier Reef Masters Games, and was to have been the Meet Director for the 2020 State Championships to be held in Cairns this year. He will be Meet Director for the 2021 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games. Ted has also completed his Technical Officials course for Starter.

Vice President Central
Dan Stampa
vpcentral@mastersswimmingqld.org.au

Dan has been a long-term member of the North Mackay Sinkers and is the current president with a supporting executive to keep the club active and contemporary.

Dan finds both pool and open water swims appealing and has swum longer events such as the “Bloody Big Swim” in Port Phillip Bay (Melb), Great Keppel Island swim and the Magnetic to Townsville swim as a team member. Another solo crossing in the Magnetic to Townsville swim is back on the radar to keep training focussed.

Organising the clubs annual Short Course and OWS events as meet director has provided regional opportunities for local swimmers to test their skills.

With the 2023 State Championships to be held in Mackay a step into the VP role will assist in providing a framework for a successful event.

Vice President Sunshine
Neil Newman

Neil has recently retired from work as an electrician but is now performing Lifeguard duties at the Burpengary Regional Aquatic Centre on a casual basis. Competing in triathlon teams as the swimmer for many years led to being convinced to give Masters a try by then coach and MSQ official, Stan Pearson. Many great years of events have followed from that decision. Neil’s focus will be on ensuring Masters Swimming grows, and he looks forward to promoting new ideas to keep Masters Swimming relevant to young and older members.
