MSQ Proudly Announces Don Taylor as 2024 Coach of the Year
Masters Swimming Queensland is proud to announce that Don Taylor has been awarded the MSQ Coach of the Year for 2024. Don’s passion, expertise, and unwavering commitment to his swimmers and club community have made a remarkable impact throughout the year.
Under Don’s leadership, the Toowoomba Tadpoles have seen a significant rise in training attendance and swim meet participation. Don played a pivotal role in reinstating the club’s annual swim meet, with both the 2023 and 2024 events enjoying great success. His mentorship of fellow coach Warren Midgley—supporting him through coach accreditation and ongoing co-coaching—demonstrates Don’s dedication to developing others and building a strong coaching team.
Despite his senior experience, Don’s humility shines through, choosing to be known simply as “one of the two coaches.” His approach fosters an inclusive, supportive environment where every swimmer is encouraged to achieve their personal best.
Don’s commitment to professional development is equally impressive, attending two face-to-face coaching clinics in 2024 to stay current with coaching techniques and bring new ideas back to his squad. He has been instrumental in boosting the club’s participation in the Endurance 1000 program and inspiring swimmers to achieve outstanding personal bests at both the 2024 National Championships and Pan Pacific Masters Games.
Known for his calm, respectful communication and positive leadership, Don is admired for his ability to tailor sessions to individual needs, promote fitness and wellbeing, and create a fun, welcoming atmosphere both on and off the pool deck. His extensive knowledge, encouragement, and infectious enthusiasm have left a lasting mark on everyone he coaches.
