Vice President North
Bert Collyer
vpnorth@mastersswimmingqld.org.au

Bert is retired, and returned to swimming five years ago, after about fifty years out of the pool. Bert enjoys swimming, especially competition, and has travelled to Brisbane on numerous occasions by train for inter-club competition. Bert is looking forward to becoming more involved in MSQ matters.

Vice President Central
Dan Stampa
vpcentral@mastersswimmingqld.org.au

Dan has been a long-term member of the North Mackay Sinkers and is the current president with a supporting executive to keep the club active and contemporary.

Dan finds both pool and open water swims appealing and has swum longer events such as the “Bloody Big Swim” in Port Phillip Bay (Melb), Great Keppel Island swim and the Magnetic to Townsville swim as a team member. Another solo crossing in the Magnetic to Townsville swim is back on the radar to keep training focussed.

Organising the clubs annual Short Course and OWS events as meet director has provided regional opportunities for local swimmers to test their skills.

With the 2023 State Championships to be held in Mackay a step into the VP role will assist in providing a framework for a successful event.

Vice President Sunshine
Neil Newman
vpsunshine@mastersswimmingqld.org.au

Neil is a member and President of the Belgravia Masters Swim Team, a reformation of the Caboolture and Districts Masters Swimming Club.

Neil has been a MSQ member since 2012 and held a committee position for most of those years. He has been instrumental in resurrecting the former Caboolture club and securing a strong relationship with Belgravia Leisure to support the “new” and growing club.

Neil has recently retired from work as an electrician but is now performing Lifeguard duties at the Burpengary Regional Aquatic Centre on a casual basis. Competing in triathlon teams as the swimmer for many years led to being convinced to give Masters a try by then coach and MSQ official, Stan Pearson. Many great years of events have followed from that decision.

Neil’s focus will be on ensuring Masters Swimming grows, and he looks forward to promoting new ideas to keep Masters Swimming relevant to young and older members.

Outside of swimming, Emma works as a laboratory research scientist, where she is very familiar with the need for stringent safely protocols and procedures and for these to be regularly reviewed and updated. Emma brings a range of skills and experience that will enable her to make a positive contribution to Masters Swimming Queensland in the role of Director of Risk Management.

Director of Programs
Shayne Baker
programs@mastersswimmingqld.org.au

Shayne has always had a strong connection with being in, on and around the water from an early age and growing up. Experiencing the unique world of aquatics, be it pool or ocean swimming, boating, water polo, surfing, lifesaving, or snorkelling, the main impact is that he considers himself a waterman.

The critical component of ‘drowning prevention’, has remained a key aspect of his lifestyle to this day and has some relevance with masters swimming and his ongoing involvement with lifesaving.

Joining masters in 2009, he has enjoyed the benefits of the fellowship and fitness that is so widely promoted, serving as President of The Toowoomba Tadpoles through the challenges of COVID (2020-2022). More recently he has become involved with MSA by chairing the national committee reviewing the MSA rules and guidelines for open water swimming.

The challenge now is to offer opportunities for our community of masters’ swimmers beyond the chlorine and saltwater experiences to the wider issues and interests that may provide a stronger connection for members.
